About Vinroy

ABOUT VINROY

Vinroy D. Brown, Jr. is a conductor, musicologist, and educator who lives at the intersection of sacred tradition and scholarly inquiry. His work is rooted in the rich soil of Black sacred music—honoring its legacy, interrogating its histories, and lifting up new voices through song and study. He is most fully himself when musicking in community, where sound becomes a sacred language, and each note is an offering—of memory, of meaning, of hope. Whether shaping worship, leading ensembles, or teaching in the classroom, he creates spaces where excellence and authenticity meet, and where music becomes both balm and fire. Through his leadership, communities are not only inspired—they are transformed. Most importantly, he is hoping to earn your vote for National President of an organization we all love, NANM Inc.

National Second Vice President & Director of Membership

In this role, I support the incredible work of our Regional Directors and collaborate with our national leadership to create meaningful connections with members across the country. During this time:

  • Regional Directors were convened quarterly to discuss the work done in regions

  • Branch Presidents were given a platform to share their work with other local leaders during the National Convention

  • A NANM Calendar was created for the purpose of having all regional and national dates in one accessible place, encouraging intentional planning in our branches

  • NANM Week allowed the nation an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of experiences in our region

  • NANM Affinity Groups were created to facilitate connection between members of similar interests from around the country, regardless of local branch affiliation (NANM Members: sign up for affinity groups HERE!)

  • In partnership with the executive board, create digital membership cards

Eastern Regional Vice President (Regional Director)

As the youngest Regional Vice President to serve NANM, Inc., I supported 13 branches that comprised approximately 48% of our membership. During my tenure:

  • Over 75 documented visits were conducted by the Regional Director to every branch in the region

  • Systems were created for reporting branch activity throughout the region

  • Over $75,000 was given in scholarship to young artists, providing financial support to the next generation of musicians

  • Brought approximately 50 college aged students from Westminster Choir College to National Conferences for performances, masterclasses and continuing education

  • Conducted five regional conferences, both in person, and including the region's first virtual and hybrid regional conferences--all of which left the organization in the black

  • Regularly balanced budgets by fundraising and creating fiscally sound practices

  • Supported branches in crisis while identifying areas for growth in the region

  • Facilitated the reconstitution of the Madame Mary Caldwell Dawson Branch in Pittsburgh, PA

  • Revised and ratified the Regional Bylaws to reflect the growth and forward direction of the regional membership

  • Worked closely with my national board counterpart to receive mentorship, guidance and learn the history of the organization and the board
